Watercolor Techniques: Creating Interesting Textures

You may be asking yourself, why do I need a productive space to create? Can’t I just make art anywhere?

It is easy, especially for beginner artists, to overlook the need for a creative space. Often we just want to jump right into making art. But keep in mind that art is work (that is why it is called artwork), so establishing a productive workspace is important.

A well-designed creative space can help you:

Become More Consistent with Your Art
Limit Artistic Frustration
Grow As An Artist

1. Become More Consistent With Your Art

What separates beginner artists from successful artists is experience. Naturally, to gain experience, we need to set aside consistent time to practice. This is often easier said than done when we have full-time jobs, family obligations, errands to run, a house to clean, and never-ending dinners.

But even when you make the time, you might find that your desire to work on your craft of choice just isn’t there.

It is so much harder to stay consistent and establish a time to work on your art when you do not have a productive creative space that is accessible and itching to be used.

Location is important. We need to know exactly where we are going to work on our art, and we need to have all our art supplies at the ready.

Art inspiration is often fleeting, so when that creative lightning strikes, we want to channel that energy NOW, or else it may be lost while we are trying to find our supplies that are put away, missing, or strewn all over the house.

And now that wonderful desire to create has left us, and we set to work tidying up the house, which is productive but doesn’t nurture our inner artist.

This leads into the next point…frustration.
